That Wine Demesne

In Their Words
That Wine Demesne History & Location
Demesne: (n)/di’mein, di’mi:n – The Lord’s waste. A piece of land attached to the manor and retained by the owner (the Lord) for their own use.
In touching distance of the small coastal town of Plettenberg Bay in an area called The Crags, lies our tiny wine farm That Wine Demesne. Here in a secret corner, cooled by mist and sea breezes funnelled through the gorges of The Crags are our vineyards and two self-catering cottages. Planted on 1.5 hectares, our Pinot Noir vines drive their roots deep into stone and clay to produce an unforgettable wine: That Wine Demesne.
We started That Wine Demesne in December 2012 whilst taking our daily afternoon walk with the dogs – glass of wine in hand. David looked across at neighbouring Bramon Wine Estate and said, “what about we do a small field?”. After a very informative dinner with the Thorpes (it all seemed so easy), we decided wine it was, and Pinot Noir our cultivar of choice. Brave, or foolhardy? Without any more ado we dived head-first into the world of viticulture, vines were planted and That Wine Demesne was born.
We solely produce Pinot Noir and although we currently do not have a Tasting Room open to the public, the farm boasts two comfortable pet-friendly self-catering cottages for couples and families. Our wine can be tasted right next door, at Bramon Wine Estate, just 500 metres metres away.
