Strandveld History & Location
Strandveld Vineyards is a beautiful wind-swept winery located 9 kilometres from the sea, surrounded by the Nuwejaars Wetlands. Tucked away off the beaten track between Bredasdorp, Elim and Cape Agulhas, it is the southernmost winery in Africa.
At almost 35 degrees below the equator, this part of our fair Cape is characterised by severe winds, billowing mist and below average temperatures. A unique combination of maritime climate, alternating sites and diverse soil types work together to create the terroir which distinguishes the wines of Strandveld Vineyards.
Inspired by the Portuguese sailors who first laid eyes on this corner of the continent in the 15th Century, it was in 2001 that a group of enthusiastic wine lovers turned to the original navigation maps to seek out potential new vineyard sites. At that time, Strandveld was a somewhat rundown sheep and wheat farm of about 800 hectares. The winery has developed over the past 20 years and is synonymous with the spirit of adventure, now boasting over 80 hectares of vineyards and three charming cottages.

Strandveld Wine Tasting
Strandveld’s 80 hectares of vineyard focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Pinot Noir, with smaller plantings of Semillon, Viognier, Grenache and Mourvedre for blending. We produce two wine ranges. Our Strandveld Vineyards wines are produced in limited quantities from only the finest grapes carefully selected from quality vineyards. Our First Sightings wines are delightfully drinkable and the perfect accompaniment to everyday food.
Enjoy tastings in the comfort of our rustic tasting room, the farm’s renovated old stable block. Weather permitting, we also have a veranda overlooking the beautiful gardens and breathtaking landscape.

Strandveld Restaurants
Please note there is no restaurant at Strandveld, however amenities are situated in Bredasdorp or Struisbaai, both approximately 35km away.
Strandveld Tours & Activities
Currently Strandveld do not offer cellar or farm tours however do form part of the Nuwejaars Wetlands special management area (SMA). Aimed at sustainably overseeing protection of the precious wetlands and their indigenous populations, this unique conservation model has already seen some 46,000 hectares of critically endangered habitat on the Agulhas Plain now being used sustainably. This ensures protection of endangered plants and animals whilst ensuring food security. This collaborative community is the first of its kind in Southern Africa. Strandveld Accommodation
Escape from city life and into a state of pure relaxation at the Strandveld Vineyard Cottages. Bring your mountain bikes to explore along marked routes, trail run or trek and pack for a picnic at the dam.
The farm offers two beautifully restored old colonial style self-catering cottages (Earth Cottage and Ocean Cottage), plus a peaceful, rustic cottage situated across the road from the winery (Veldhuis). The Earth Cottage houses a Double bed, whilst the Ocean Cottage contains two Singles which can be adjusted to a King Size. The Veldhuis houses two Singles. All cottages feature an indoor or enclosed fireplace/braai and kitchenette. Extra mattresses may be requested for kids. Pets can unfortunately not be catered for.
Pricing
Earth and Ocean Cottages are priced from R950 per cottage per night. The Veldhuis is priced from R650 per night. Prices based on self-catering for 2 adults. Please note breakfast baskets and a braai basket for 2 are also available to pre-order.
