History & Location
An hours’ drive south of Cape Town enroute to the coastal town of Hermanus lies the Overberg town of Grabouw. The town is surrounded by the Hottentot Hollands, Kogelberg and Groenberg mountain ranges which form the cool mountain plateau of the Elgin Valley. Situated on the south eastern side of this valley lies South Hill Vineyards. Elgin Valley is fast becoming known for not just its top cool climate producing wine route, but also a romantic destination wedding region and outdoor adventure capital.
A background in hotels, restaurants and property development coupled with a huge passion for wine prompted the King family to create this contemporary, accessible and boutique wine farm. The estate boasts pristine vineyards which produce top quality cool climate grapes and wines; a luxury farm-stay accommodation experience; an art gallery of continually changing local art; a space for creating unique personalied functions and weddings plus a restaurant serving delicious bistro country style meals.

Wine Tasting
Originally an underutilised apple and pear farm, our vineyards were planted after extensive research conducted by leading viticulture consultants and our maiden vintage was 2006.
The Elgin Valley is surrounded by the Kogelberg Biosphere, spread over three mountain ranges and home to the world’s richest flora and fauna kingdom. The farm is situated 10km from the cold southern Atlantic Ocean and cool south easterly winds help keep daytime temperatures down, while our altitude of 300m-550m above sea level means that nights are cool. This diurnal temperature variation slows down the ripening process, allowing grapes to be harvested later in the season.
South Hill wines benefit from high fruit flavour development, taking advantage of their natural fresh acidity and with little cellar intervention, ensuring they retain a natural balance whilst maintaining the integrity of the Elgin cool climate terroir. Our ‘South Hill’ wine range is consistently quality-driven, accessible, unpretentious and good value. The limited quantity ‘Kevin King’ range of expressive wines are ideal for food pairings and special occasions and the reserve ‘King of the Hill’ range is made in small quantities of selected stand out vintages.
Wine Tasting Prices
Tasting options include 3 Kevin King wines for R60pp or 5 South Hill wines for R90pp. Alternatively 5 South Hill & 3 Kevin King wines cost R150pp. Purchase any 12 bottles to have 2 tasting fees waivered and receive membership to the South Hill Silver Top Club. Wines can also be ordered by the glass or bottle.

Restaurants
At South Hill we strive to create the quintessential neighbourhood restaurant in Elgin, somewhere to kick back and relax – enjoy a leisurely breakfast, a generous country style lunch or to celebrate special times – a romantic meal, wedding, birthday lunch or make merry with a glass of your favourite South Hill wine.
French doors open onto spacious lawns which provide loads of space to have a game of croquet, kids and dogs to run, or to sip and savour a glass of crisp, cool climate wine overlooking an amazing sunset.
Menus & Pricing
Wherever possible, we source ingredients from our herb and vegetable garden and local suppliers. Our menu includes generous, delicious country platters and tapas accompanied with homemade breads and relishes. Daily specials, a kids’ menu and Sunday Feast lunches ensure seasonal variety.
Breakfast items may include options such as a Farm Breakfast with all the trimmings, Eggs Royale, French Toast and Omelettes (prices from R65). We also offer Cheese, Fish, Pate, Meat or Vegetable Platters, from R130pp and a wide selection of meat and veggie tapas is available to share, from R25 per item.
Tours & Activities
Currently South Hill do not offer cellar or farm tours.
Situated in our restaurant space, South Hill offers a variety of artworks that include paintings, small and large scale sculptures, photography, ceramics and mixed medium work as well as selected conceptual work from contemporary South African artists. The beautiful Elgin Valley and South Hill Vineyards offers the perfect location for a destination wedding to remember. Lush gardens of indigenous plantings, big skies and lawns offer a multitude of possibilities during the summer months while indoor, intimate spaces with fireplaces provide a romantic winter option. Accommodation
4 star accredited South Hill Vineyards offers a luxury farm-stay experience with several accommodation options. Enjoy one of 6 luxurious, spacious rooms in our Guest House (or take the entire house exclusively for 12 adults), relax in the tranquil, romantic 1 Bedroom Pumphouse Honeymoon Cottage, or for a water-based getaway, why not book our unique House Boat, ‘Stokies Ark’?

Pricing
Individual rooms in the South Hill Guest House start from R1810 per room per night, on a room only basis for 2 adults. The entire Guest House (12 adults) can be booked from R5,400 per night, room only.
The Pump House Honeymoon Cottage is R1140 per room per night, on a room only basis for 2 adults. The ‘Stokies Ark’ House Boast sleeps 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children, and costs from R5250 per night, room only.
Please note that we do insist on a minimum two night stay over weekends.
