Simonsig Wines

In Their Words
Simonsig History & Location
Situated less than 15 minutes away from the historic town of Stellenbosch, Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region and the Malan family name.
These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved ‘Kaapse Vonkel’ – South Africaʼs first ‘bubbly’ Méthode Cap Classique – made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Francois-Jacques, Christelle and Michael – the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations.
A warm welcome awaits at Simonsig Wine Estate where we invite you to taste our range of award-winning wines in a relaxed atmosphere, either on the shaded veranda or inside our Tasting Room. We also have a jungle gym for kids!

Simonsig Tours & Activities
Simonsig’s Guided Cellar Tours have unfortunately been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions. These will reopen when COVID regulations permit and we will update this page in due course.
For something a little exciting, Simonsig offers guests the opportunity to ‘sabrage’ at no extra cost during your visit. Sabrage is a technique used for opening a champagne bottle with a saber, by sliding the saber along the body seam of the bottle to the lip, to break the top of the neck away. Please ask on arrival for more details.
