Lanzerac History & Location
Steeped in history dating back to 1692, Lanzerac Wine Estate is a historic landmark and Stellenbosch icon.
The grande dame is synonymous with old-world charm and rich Cape heritage – and was home to the world’s first bottled Pinotage. Positioned in the idyllic Jonkershoek Valley on the outskirts of the historical town of Stellenbosch, the estate boasts views of dramatic mountain ranges, endless rows of lush vineyards and hectares of gardens shaded by giant Oak trees.
The homestead was transformed into a manor house in 1959 – reminiscent of the traditional French way of fusing a country hotel and wine estate. Today the iconic property hosts an elegant 5 star country hotel, acclaimed bars, restaurants and deli, a traditional tasting venue and a chic day spa.
Lanzerac Operating Hours
Wine Tasting: open Fri to Sun 8am-6pm, or until 7pm between Oct and Apr (last full tasting 5.30pm).
Lanzerac Deli: open Fri to Sun 8am-6pm, however between Oct to Apr open till 7pm.
Manor Kitchen: open daily for dinner (seatings 6pm-9pm), plus Sat 2pm-5pm for afternoon tea & Sun 12pm-3pm for lunch.
Taphuis Bar: open Mon to Fri 12pm-10pm, Sat & Sun 8am-10pm (kitchen closes 9.30pm).
Craven Lounge Bar: open Fri to Sun 5pm-10pm (kitchen closes 9.30pm).
Lanzerac Spa: open daily 9am-6pm.

Lanzerac Wine Tasting
Set on one of the oldest heritage farms in the Western Cape, Lanzerac has been cultivating award-winning wines for decades and were the first winery in the world to use the term ‘Pinotage’ on its 1959 vintage label, marking its birth. To this day, Lanzerac is still producing award-winning Pinotage, along with a wide variety of other excellent wines.
Guests are invited to enjoy a selection of wine tastings and platters in the comfort of the traditionally styled Tasting Room adjacent to our Deli, at the front of our Estate. Guests can also sit outside on the veranda, subject to available seating and fine weather. Cyclists are welcome, however please note we have no specific provisions for equipment or facilities.
Wine Tasting Prices
The Premium Tasting includes 5 wines of your choice from the premium range (R75pp), or you can pair with Chocolates (R125pp). The Heritage Tasting (R150pp) features 4 flagship wines including the Lanzerac MCC (bubbly). Glasses and bottles of wine are also available as are beers, ciders and a range of cold and hot drinks. Cheese and Charcuterie Platters are also available (prices approx. R160 for 2).
Lanzerac also offers private tastings for groups of 20 or more, either at a location of your choice in the Western Cape or on the estate. Contact Lanzerac for more information.
Lanzerac Restaurants
The Lanzerac Deli is located next to the Tasting Room, tucked amidst vineyards and giant Oaks. Here the team of chefs work in an open kitchen and it’s the perfect gourmet retreat for diners in search of homemade delights and sweet culinary creations. Enjoy cosy indoor seating or sit outdoors on the terrace.
At the elegant Manor Kitchen, diners will get a glimpse of the creativity that goes into preparing opulent and classical meals through the large windows that look in on the kitchen’s operations. An acclaimed restaurant surrounded by greenery and bathed in natural light, offering unique flavours and a refined high tea.
The Taphuis Bar has been welcoming thirsty travellers since the 1960s. Its country-inspired décor is rich in texture with stone walls, brick floors and exposed wooden ceilings. Diners sit inside by the large fire or outdoors on the shady terrace.
The relaxed and informal Craven Lounge boasts a roaring fireplace, comfortable seating, plush rugs and an adornment of interesting memorabilia on the walls. Alongside an extensive drinks menu, enjoy a selection of tapas plates.
Menus & Pricing
At the Deli, enjoy all day breakfasts, a wide selection of breads, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, locally sourced cheese and charcuterie platters. Prices from R80pp for light meals and R160 for platters. A small kids’ menu is available.
The Manor Kitchen currently serves a 4 course Sunday lunch (from R420pp), as well as an elegant high tea complete with all the trimmings (from R280pp). **Please note breakfast for outside guests not currently available due to Covid restrictions.**
At the Taphuis and Craven Lounge, enjoy pub-style light meals and sharing plates, including fish and chips, slow smoked pork belly, salads and a range of desserts. A vegetarian, vegan and kids’ menu is available. Prices from R160pp for mains.
Lanzerac Tours & Activities
Cellar Tours are available daily at 11am guided by an expert Wine Advisor, offering visitors the opportunity to tour the working wine cellar and explore the estate’s heritage. Due to changing COVID restrictions, please call ahead to check.
Private Wine Tastings for groups of 20+ are available, either on the estate or at a location of your choice in the Western Cape. These include a Premium or Elite Package, with 5 or 7 wines. Please contact Lanzerac for more information.
For Spa lovers, unwind and rejuvenate at Lanzerac’s Spa, a sought-after wellness retreat and relaxation hideaway. The spa boasts beautiful views overlooking the vineyards and towering Stellenbosch mountains and in addition to a range of treatments, guests can enjoy an indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi. The spa is open to the public and bookings can be made via spa@lanzerac.co.za or on the Lanzerac website.
For Events & Conferences, Lanzerac is also home to a wide range of venues for exclusive and private functions such as gala dinners, birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries and cocktail parties. Please contact events@lanzerac.co.za for more information.

Just a 5 minute drive from Stellenbosch town, Lanzerac is the ultimate getaway to relax your senses and allow the harmony and tranquillity of the majestic Jonkershoek Valley to work its magic.

Pricing
Prices start from R5900 per night including breakfast for 2, based on a Classic Room in low season (winter).
