Kay & Monty History & Location
Kay and Monty Vineyards is nestled in the heart of the picturesque Plett Winelands, just 25 minutes’ drive from the town itself.
Originally 2 protea farms, Rondebosch & Redford, they were bought in 2004 by owner Chick Legh, an avid polo player, and subsequently converted into a polo estate. In 2008 the first vines were planted which produced their first vintages in 2012. It was then that Chick decided to name the vineyard in loving memory of his parents, Kay & Monty. Today, the farm is now owned by Chick’s daughter, Steph.
While our farm is a staggering 220 hectares, the vineyards only roll across roughly 8 hectares of resplendent hills, keeping our emphasis on being a boutique wine farm, popular for weddings and events. The rest remains a fully functioning polo estate with the addition of some grazing cattle, a modern tasting room restaurant and the Rare Earth Country House.

Kay & Monty Wine Tasting
The vineyards currently produce from three varietals namely Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. We have also recently added the red varietals Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Carignan, ensuring some exciting new wines are in the pipeline to add to our current offering of Sauvignon Blanc and bubbly Cap Classique Champu!
Wine tasting is offered in our tasting room restaurant, an old orchid greenhouse set at the foothills of the mountains amongst the vineyards. The greenhouse has been thoughtfully transformed into a beautifully balanced modern space with rustic charm. Join us in this relaxed atmosphere and let us share our passion for the area and our wines.
Wine Tasting Prices
Tastings of our Sauvignon Blanc cost R10 and our bubbly Champu Cap Classique R20. We also offer these by the glass or bottle, plus have a red blend, beers, ciders, spirits, soft drinks and milkshakes to complement our offering.
Kay & Monty Restaurants
The old renovated orchid greenhouse offers the perfect setting for our tasting room restaurant and events venue, which overlooks our vineyards, paddocks and dam. Beyond here lies the breathtaking mountainous terrain of the Keurboom’s River Nature Reserve and Forestry.
On hot summer days enjoy a light lunch made up of locally sourced fresh ingredients while enjoying the view. On colder days you can keep warm in the comfort of our two fireplaces. It’s a very social affair so bring friends and family! We also offer picnics for 2 people, by prior arrangement and include a blanket and small umbrella.
Menus & Pricing
In our tasting room restaurant, we offer delicious platters of cheeses and meats paired with locally sourced artisanal breads and our wines of course! Alternatively a selection of flatbreads and salads are available, plus a small selection of desserts. Mains from R105, sharing platters from R240.
For our picnics for 2, these include a selection of cheeses and charcuterie, dips, homemade breads, olives, seasonal fruit, a dessert, mineral water and bottle of our Sav wine. Priced at R530 for 2 and you can also upgrade to a bottle of our MCC Champu for R100. A kids’ pack is available for R95. Picnics must be pre-booked in advance and are enjoyed anywhere on the farm during restaurant hours.

Breathtaking views, fine wine, delicious food and a magnificent space ready to be filled with your closest family and friends await all those who choose Kay and Monty as their wedding venue. We have thoughtfully converted our glass orchid greenhouse into a beautiful, modern rustic event and wedding venue which can seat up to 200 guests, or alternatively be restructured to suit a more intimate gathering. What’s more, for the duration of your time here you will have the sprawling estate and award-winning vineyards all to yourselves. Please contact the farm for more details.
Kay & Monty Accommodation
For a relaxing escape to the Plett Winelands, we have our original and authentic farmhouse, aptly named Rare Earth Country House. Sympathetically converted into a luxurious 5 Bedroom exclusive-use farmhouse, this spacious self-catering accommodation sleeps 10 people with ample space to unwind by the pool and enjoy the peaceful farm life.
The prestigious Rare Earth group also boasts The Old Rectory Hotel in Plettenberg Bay, The Outpost and Pels Post game lodges in Kruger Park, Tshwene and Ekuthuleni Lodges in Limpopo and Bakoven Beach House in Cape Town.
