Hillcrest History & Location
Hillcrest Wine & Olive Estate is a boutique winery, nestled in the Tygerberg Hills on the outskirts of Durbanville. Only a 30-minute drive from Cape Town, we offer visitors a host of activities, a casual style restaurant, delicious olives and award-winning wines.
Purchased in 1984 by a Cape-based construction company, the potential for growth of quality wine and olives was recognised and the owners made the exciting decision to plant Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. In time, these grapes were supplied to the nearby Durbanville Hills winery however in 2001 the owners began their own cellar. The following season, 8 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes were pressed and vinified, making 2002 the maiden vintage for Hillcrest.
Hillcrest Estate’s olive orchards were established in 1993 and have yielded award-winning olives and olive oils. The view from our orchards, situated between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, sweeps across Table Bay to Robben Island and Table Mountain.
Hillcrest Operating Hours
Wine Tasting: open Tue to Sat 10am-5pm & Sun 11am-4pm (last tasting 1 hour prior). First come, first served.
Restaurant & Beer Garden: open Wed to Sun 9am-4pm, except open until 8pm Fri & Sat.
Farm Stall: open Mon to Sat 10am-5pm.

Our Tasting Room Is closed on Mondays, plus the 24, 25, 26 and 31 Dec, plus 1 Jan. Our restaurant is closed Mon and Tue. All times, prices and facilities listed are subject to change. Hillcrest Wine Tasting
Our vineyards are planted on north west facing slopes between 200 & 380 meters above sea level. This undulating landscape provides a range of micro-climates that allows different grape varietals to thrive.
Our tasting room is conveniently situated within the Hillcrest restaurant, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding vineyards, where one can take in the old-world feel of our boutique wine cellar. Relax at our bar counter and enjoy the many tasting options on offer, then peruse our adjacent shop carrying our exclusive range of olives, olive oils, and exquisite estate wines.
We seat on a first come first serve basis, however should you be in a group of 8 or more please contact us in advance to pre-book.
Wine Tasting Prices
Try our 3 wine Estate Tasting for R30pp, our 4 Saartjie Single Varietal Tasting for R70pp, 3 wine Flagship Atlantic Slopes Tasting for R60pp, 4 wine White and Rosé Tasting for R55pp, or our 6 Red Wine Tasting for R100pp.
The cost of one wine tasting is waived should you buy a case of wine. Should you join our Wine Club, a 10% discount is available for olive and wine purchases. Please ask the estate for more details.
Hillcrest Restaurants
Our restaurant is tucked away amongst the rolling hills and vineyards that contribute to our spectacular views. Cosy and welcoming, it’s been a haven for all generations over the years, making it a favourite for families and friends who enjoy farm to table dining.
The restaurant is also home to our unique revolving wood-fired pizza oven and the Havoc Brew beer garden and BBQ Braai pit. Here you can enjoy a selection of craft beers all brewed on the estate, alongside live music on selected days and gourmet pizzas.
Menus & Pricing
All our products are locally sourced and are brought to life with Italian inspiration and Mediterranean flair.
Previous staples have included west coast mussels, salmon salads, prime meat cuts, burgers, fresh seafood and of course our famous wood-fired pizzas. A selection of desserts, a kids’ menu and vegan options are also available. Main courses from R120pp.
Hillcrest Tours & Activities
Hillcrest do allow visitors to tour their cellar on a self-guided basis – please contact the farm for more information.
The Hillcrest Farm Stall is open every day except Sunday and offers a range of our finest produce. Find us at the estate’s entrance.
The estate is also home to the Quarry, a function and event venue which has been the home to many weddings, parties and festivals over the years. Consisting of a fully licensed 300 sqm building, 180 sqm framed marquee, 5000 sqm of rolling lawn and a 7000 sqm lake (all situated in a rehabilitated quarry), this is a diverse space suitable for 80-2000 patrons.
