In Their Words

Gabriëlskloof History & Location

Located an hours’ drive from Cape Town just outside the small town of Bot River, Gabriëlskloof is the realisation of a dream for South African Bernhard Heyns, who searched for several years to find the unique piece of land that would “root him to the spot”.

In 2001, he found a canola farm named ‘Avontuur’ which displayed the potential to make high-quality wines with a distinctive character. 12 grape varietals are grown on the property and our vision at Gabriëlskloof is to produce fine wines that reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of our unique terroir. We also grow, extract, bottle and blend olive oils from 5 olive varietals on the farm, producing some of the most awarded olive oils in the country

We welcome guests for tastings and meals at our restaurant, all year round. We look forward to seeing you!

Gabriëlskloof Wine Tasting

We have 3 ranges making up our wine portfolio, collectively showcasing what our unique terroir is capable of when farmed sustainably and matched with exacting winemaking. The Gabriëlskloof Range focuses on the estate vineyards and are accessible on release. The Landscape Series showcases our top vineyard sites along with some of South Africa’s best old vines, while the Projects Range allows us space to experiment with alternative fermentation and ageing methods.

We welcome guests for tastings all year round. Specialised tastings with our cellar master are available by appointment only.

Wine Tasting Prices

Wine tasting costs R60pp for wines from our Gabriëlskloof range and R150 for wines from the Landscape Series. The fees are waived with purchase of wine. A meat and cheese platter for 2 is available to order alongside your tasting, for R275.

Gabriëlskloof Restaurants

The Gabriëlskloof Restaurant is owned and run by Frans and Mariaan Groenewald, who have become known for their hearty, honest and refined soul food. They are passionate about everything local and source most of their produce from neighbouring farms and villages. Keeping in tune with seasonality, the menu changes often but pleases all palates.

Our in-house deli stocks a range of charcuterie, pastries and other quality produce from the farm and surrounding area, including our award-winning olive oil. This is a blend of first-press oils from 5 different varieties which are planted on our sunniest slopes, benefitting from ideal Mediterranean conditions and delivering flavour-intense fruit year on year. Friends and families are welcome to build their own picnics with items from the deli.
