Eikendal History & Location
Eikendal Wines, with its distinctive barrel-vaulted cellar and towering fountain, is a landmark on the R44 road between Somerset West and Stellenbosch.
Situated in the “Golden Triangle” of wine growing, Eikendal’s vineyards flourish in a mountain and maritime microclimate, ideal for the production of quality wine. Since 1981, the 76 hectare wine farm has been under the ownership of the Saager family from Switzerland, who recognised the great potential of the area and wasted no time in modernising the existing vineyards and establishing the cellar.
The Helderberg ward, on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain, produces some of the Cape’s finest wines and numerous awards and accolades from around the world bear testimony to Eikendal’s fine wine heritage.
Eikendal Operating Hours
Wine Tasting: open Tue to Sun 9.30am-7pm.
Kids’ Tasting & Cheesecake Tasting: available Tue to Sun 11am-6pm (please pre-book the Cheesecake Tasting).
Cucina di Giovanni Restaurant: open Tue to Sat 12pm-8pm & Sun 12pm-4pm.
Cellar Tours: available Tue to Sun, 11am-6pm, by appointment only.
Vineyard Walks: available Tue to Sun 11am-6pm.
Tractor Rides: Sat & Sun 1pm-5pm (currently suspended, please check for updates directly).

Eikendal Wine Tasting
Eikendal blends modern viticulture with Old World winemaking and the focus in the vineyard is to create maximum fruit and structure in the grape berry with as much concentration as possible, using chemicals only when absolutely necessary.
We have planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Petit Verdot and Chardonnay, hich gives us a good combination of Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundian varietals.
At Eikendal we welcome families of all sizes. In addition to a welcoming inside Tasting Room, we have a great little jungle gym outside by the lawns, so bring the little ones and enjoy a lovely wine tasting and kiddies tasting.
Wine Tasting Prices
Our Classic Wine Tasting includes 5 wines for R60pp, or we can offer an Express Tasting of 3 wines for R40pp. Our Cheesecake Pairing costs from R120pp and must be pre-booked, plus we offer a Kiddies Tasting between 10am-4pm for R60pp.
Eikendal Restaurants
The hugely popular Somerset West restaurant Giovanni’s opened its doors nine years and today is celebrated as one of the most popular eateries in the Helderberg region. This prompted them to find their ‘second home’: their sister restaurant Cucina di Giovanni, based at Eikendal.
Cucina di Giovanni offers a relaxed, family-friendly hotspot where excellent Italian-inspired food, wine and service are served up with gorgeous views of the farm. We welcome families of all sizes.
Menus & Pricing
The restaurant offers an incredibly wide selection of pizzas, pastas, risottos, grilled meats, burgers and fresh fish. A kids’ menu is also available. Main courses from R120pp.
Eikendal Tours & Activities
Eikendal offer a Cellar Tour between Tue and Sun, 11am-6pm, for R20pp. These must be pre-booked.
If you enjoy walking, take an amble through our manicured vineyards, enjoying scenic views and active bird life. There are two clearly marked routes that you can follow, for your enjoyment between between Tue and Sun, 11am-6pm, for R20pp.
At weekends, the estate usually offers family-friendly tractor rides, which are free of charge and do not need to be pre-booked.

Eikendal Accommodation
Gracefully nestled amidst lush vineyards on a working winery, Eikendal Lodge offers 9 beautifully appointed rooms, each with a private terrace boasting spectacular views of the Helderberg Mountain, our beautiful garden and surrounding vineyards.
