Darling Cellars

In Their Words
Darling Cellars History & Location
Darling Cellars is situated on South Africa’s cool west coast between the towns of Malmesbury and Darling, approximately 1 hours’ drive from Cape Town and 15 kilometres from the coastline.
1996 heralded a new era for the region of Darling, with the establishment of our private cellar. Today, 20 shareholders produce grapes from an area of approximately 1300 hectares, with a focus on producing wines that are true to the unique terroir of the region and true to the grape varietal.
Our cool and temperate climate, along with the different soil types, lead to unique grapes which we guide into even more unique wines. With approximately 95% of all our vineyards being unirrigated (dry land) and roughly the same percentage being bush vines (i.e. not trellised), this is as close as one can get to what nature intended for grapes to be – and result in wines that are true to their terroir and true to the identity which we have crafted over time.
We look forward to welcoming families and friends soon, we have a jungle gym for kids and both indoor and outdoor seating.

Darling Cellars Wine Tasting
The soils of the Western Cape are approximately 4 and a half million years old. These are extremely old compared to the relatively young soils of Europe. More nutrients are thus found in the lower soil levels in Darling, and with a nice deep root system, our bush vines work their way down and reach these nutrients to bring forward more fruit flavours in the grapes.
Darling Cellars produces four main wine ranges. Our Darling Cellars Reserve range is the core of what we’re about: varietal wines which are fruity, accessible and excellent value. Our Classic range is fun and easy drinking, designed for occasions where you want to entertain. Our Old Bush Vine Range comes from specific old bush vines – and our Premium range comes from site-specific vineyards, both of these being specifically selected for their uniqueness in prominent terroir flavours.
